Modernization paths / capability

Choose repair, connection, or replacement from evidence

Modernization is not automatically a rebuild. The lowest-risk path may be a focused repair, a stable integration around a legacy core, a new portal, a staged data migration, or a complete replacement with a verified rollback path.

Span 1

Stabilize before expanding

When the current system is fragile, first preserve source and data, document deployment, fix critical failures, add observability, and create a repeatable release path. New features should not land on an unknown recovery posture. The result is a safer base for later interface or workflow work.

  • Scoped backup and restore test
  • Critical-route monitoring
  • Source and environment inventory
  • Small reversible changes
Span 2

Connect the work that should remain separate

APIs, imports, exports, scheduled jobs, dashboards, and notifications can reduce duplicate effort while allowing different systems or organizational units to retain their proper authority. The integration contract defines ownership, data shape, error handling, retries, audit evidence, and what happens when a partner is unavailable.

  • Explicit system of record
  • Idempotent handoffs
  • Readable error and correction queues
  • No production secrets in source
Span 3

Replace only with a migration story

A replacement needs mapped data, field rules, language treatment, test fixtures, reconciliation, user training, parallel operation where justified, cutover criteria, and rollback. Faith Forge Labs can implement and verify the technical migration; the client approves record meaning, retention, business rules, and operational acceptance.

  • Sample migration rehearsal
  • Count and hash reconciliation
  • Language and encoding checks
  • Named cutover authority

Choose the smallest safe modernization step

Bring the current system, failure pattern, access constraints, and one workflow that would materially improve if the handoff were fixed.
